A love letter to my Grandad and his home, Ireland. This project reflects on themes of loss and grief surrounding my grandad and his faded memories due to suffering from Dementia for ten years. Using 110 film, I retrace the locations my grandad always longed to reconnect with. Home is where the heart is, and his heart longed to return to Ireland after leaving at fifteen to find work in England. This journey of visiting the places of significance to him is my way of connecting with someone I love but never knew.
The stillness of the landscapes I captured in Ireland represents the silence and peace I gained from visiting the home my grandad always longed to return to.
of course, there is a sadness and pain of not having been able to know you when you were alive, but with this sadness is the reminder of love.
Our memories make us and serve as a souvenir of love and when those memories are cruelly taken from us by time, you can only hope that love is left behind.
I hope you felt it throughout these ten years of fog, I hope you know I love you.
This is my Souvenir.
